At the end of your final season of the year, we know that you need some time off ‘club stuff’ in general. After so many competitions/gradings etc., summer is the perfect time to relax in the warm weather. Whether you’re going on holiday, spending more time with family or just enjoying having some free time, taking time to re-charge your batteries is refreshing for most of us.
We’ve been in this game for a long time now, with most of our team coaching their own clubs. We know it can be tempting to get carried away with the time off over summer and it’s easy to keep pushing back starting your new season admin.
Year after year, we see clubs get in touch in the last week of August; stressed because they’ve left things way too late; leaving themselves with a week to set their whole club up in their new sports club management software.
Naturally, we always do everything we can to help these clubs get ready in time. But we see how stressful it is for them during the whole process.
Here are 4 of the most common reasons you shouldn’t leave your new season club admin until last minute.
1. You’ll miss out on money/get paid late
Getting members/parents to complete payment requests can be a nightmare on a normal week, never mind at the start of September when everything is re-starting, including school! Starting to get people sorted with a few weeks to spare is a good idea for making sure everyone hits the new season deadline. If you only give a few days’ notice, chances are, you’ll have some stragglers.
2. You’ll waste a lot of time
We know what you’re thinking, ‘how can I waste time if I’m rushing to get things sorted?’. If you’re new to a system, you’re still learning your way around during the initial setup. If you’re rushing to get things sorted without fully understanding things, you’re bound to make mistakes. This will cost you more time in the long run.
After a calm and relaxing summer, recovering from the end of last season, the last thing you want is to be working yourself up over next season’s admin. If you leave things until last minute, you’ll probably end up feeling like you never even had time off!
4. You won’t get chance to start fresh
You’ve been promising yourself to do things differently for ages. This year, you’ll make the brave move onto a new system, you just will! Until you’ve left it too late and only have a week to get your admin together…
This will normally mean you’ve backed yourself into a corner whereby you have to carry on with your spreadsheets/expensive provider for another season. Wasting both time and money.
